HISTORY OF RTC

I

Reformed Theological College was established by missionaries from South Korean Churches,
who since then have provided financial support and leadership through the organization known as Mission to Every Nation Ltd (MEN). Along with the services of MEN missionaries, there is a Board of Governors, who are mainly Ugandan Christian leaders to assist in giving leadership and oversight to the College.

RTC VISION AND NATURE

By vision and mission, RTC is an interdenominational institution. It seeks to cooperate with Churches and Christian groups of evangelical persuasion and practice.

Reformed Theological College launched its training activities on 31st January, 1994 in a rented property acquired by a Korean missionary couple, who at that time were teaching at Namugongo seminary of the Anglican Church.

The aim of the College, according to Rev. and Mrs. Pae, was to train Christian leaders for the local churches of the countries in the great lakes region. This was in accordance with what MEN members firmly believed that effective leadership is the crucial key to the growth of the local church and the major task of mission. To this end, RTC has laid a great emphasis upon training of leaders who should be equipped with vital spirituality and commitment, biblical vision and theology, exemplary character and leadership orientation. This should form the character and uniqueness of this training establishment.

THE PROGRESSION OF RTC SINCE 1994

From our humble beginning at Mutundwe hill, land was acquired at about 500 meters to what was going to be the permanent home of RTC. A new principal, Rev. Ilkyu Park, took over from Rev. Sang Ho Pae in 1995 and led the College to its new site at Kisigula Mutundwe. The visit of the Korean pastors who sponsored the College was a milestone in this new development, including the construction of the buildings at the new site.

Hither to, all our students were drawn from the districts of Uganda. Now, however, students from Kenya, Sudan, Congo and Rwanda have enrolled in the College programs.

The College progression can be outlined as follows:

1997.  More land acquired totaling 140 acres including a College farm.

1998.  In addition to the School of Theology, the School of Music
and the School of Early Childhood Education were inaugurated.

1999.  RTC was affiliated to Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education
in South Africa; for Bachelor of Theology and BA Honors programs in the School of Theology.

2002.    Students intake had reached 150 from 20 students in 1994, when

the College opened; established teaching and administrative staff were recruited.

Today, we have a fairly stocked library with over 12,000 copies, several blocks of lecture room and housing facilities for students and staff. Our administration block has adequate space needed for offices. We also have a spacious dining hall and an attached kitchen, a chapel, etc. These facilities are adequately serving our small but steady growing community.

We look ahead in faith that through the RTC community faithful leaders of God¡¯s people will be raised up in truth and love to transform local churches and communities. In that way the Church of Christ will grow and the Kingdom of God will be extended in Africa. We sincerely trust that we will all work together for this precious vision, serving and loving one another in one spirit. May all of the glory be to the Lord through our toil !
